After loosing its edge in IT product manufacturing to mainland China, Taiwan invests more in research and development to stay competitive.

Microsoft Taiwan is a good example how the high-tech industry in Taiwan invests in research and development. After producing an RFID prototype for postal service, the Microsoft Technology Center is now working on health care solutions using RFID technology.

First license for Passive UHF RFID System Taiwan

The Directorate General of Telecommunications (DGT), a government agency under the supervision of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), confirmed that Taiwan’s official license for passive ultra-high frequency RFID systems has been granted to Pretide Technology.

RFID facility in Chin-Yu, Taiwan

Entegris, Inc. announced that it is opening a new regional service center in Chin-Yu, Taiwan. The facility features the technology in submicron cleaning, RFID tracking and metrology equipment to clean and certify semiconductor wafer carriers and shipping products - doing so with ultrasonic cleaning, vacuum drying and high throughput capabilities.

Taiwan NFC Scheme Moves On, BenQ Supplies Handsets

According to industry insiders, trials of mobile phones doubling as payment tools will be taking place in Taiwan shortly, marking a big step for the nation's contactless technology development.

They're using Near Field Communication (NFC), a close-range wireless technology that operates over a few centimeters, enabling the simple transfer of information. Created by Nokia Corporation, Royal Philips Electronics and Sony Corporation, it uses a restricted version of RFID and we've been keen on it for the last 18 months, or so.
